DIRECTOR OF PATIENT SERVICES JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the clinical direction and supervision of patient care services. This position is responsible for the development and direction of all professional, ancillary and non professional services.

 

DIRECTOR OF PATIENT SERVICES ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for clinical directions, day to day operational direction and administrative management of all clinically related services.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the Agency program.
  • Assists in the evaluation of programs, services, processes and systems.
  • Recommends change in policies and procedures which would improve the operation of the Agency or care of the patients and implements approved recommendations/changes.
  • Develops standards which insure safe and therapeutically effective service to patients and families. Responsible to ensure that standards are met.
  • Determines a staffing pattern which will accomplish stated objectives and promote maximum level of utilization of field health personnel.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, transferring and terminating for all clinically related services.
  • Collaborates with Managers in establishing criteria and procedures for recruitment, selection, promotion, and termination of personnel.
  • Establishes the function and qualification for each position in conjunction with the Administrator.
  • Assists with the development, design and implementation of the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Oversees the activities of the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Assists in development and implementation of automated patient care systems.
  • Maintains liaison with MIS, SIM, billing/accounting departments for review, evaluation, revision and implementation of data.
  • Serves on Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) and other Performance Improvement (PI) Committee.
  • Evaluates hospital, physician and community needs and plans programs and services to meet those needs. Assures implementation of procedures.
  • Coordinates and conducts studies and research and other administrative functions.
  • Makes visits to patients in their homes as needed to assess the quality of care given in response to complaints.
  • Reviews and analyzes all Federal, State and local regulations and develops or makes recommendations regarding changes in Agency policies and practices.
  • Participates in the review, analysis and appraisal of the effectiveness of the total Agency program.
  • Acts as the Administrator designee in the absence of the Administrator.
  • Ensures that client clinical records reflect quality and safe delivery of home care services and are within accepted standards.
  • Ensures nursing supervision is available at all times during agency operating hours.
  • Ensures case management activities are conducted to promote efficient and effective services.
  • Consultation with nurses regarding professional growth is documented.
  • Disciplinary action is instituted as needed, according to Policy and Procedure.
  • Competency evaluations are performed according to policy and procedure.
  • Prepares office and complies with surveyors from Federal, State and Local and Contractual Authorities.
  • Provides home care staff with continuing education regarding Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.
  • Monitors and evaluates home care staff compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Ensures current professional Licensure and qualifications for home care staff.
  • Provides administrative on call responsibilities.

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess at least one of the following combinations of education & experience:Two years’ experience as a supervising community health nurse OR Two years of home care nursing experience plus a master’s degree in nursing, public health, business administration or another health related field.
  • Currently licensed and registered to practice with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Home Care Regulations.
  • Demonstrates leadership, organization and communication expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

*Requirement for Pediatric and IV cases only.
